Day
One
We
leave from Saluzzo and continue on towards Pian
del Re, birthplace of the River Po: we will visit the
source and the adjacent peat bog.
There
will be the possibility of climbing to the lakes of Fiorenza and
Nona, a splendid observation point from which we can admire the
entire valley (about a 15 minute walk).
Boxed
lunch.
In
the afternoon we will walk to the hamlet of Ostana,
an Alpine settlement best known for its typical buildings in the
characteristic local style. From the town we can enjoy a splendid
view of Monviso.
We
then continue on to Revello with a stop at the Visitors’ Center of
the Park
of the River Po in Cuneo
Full
dinner, featuring local products, and overnight stay.
Day
Two
After
breakfast we will go on an excursion with a nature guide in order to
discover the most interesting and suggestive corners of the Po
Valley. (Depending on the season, the excursion will take place in
mid-valley or at a higher altitude.)
Boxed
lunch.
In
the afternoon we will visit a local farm and take part in a
“merenda Sinoira”, a light late afternoon meal featuring local
products. We will continue towards Cavour and visit the well-known Rocca
di Cavour (500 meters above sea level), a morphologically
unusual outcropping of rock which emerges from the surrounding
flatlands and where a significant number of unique polychrome rock
paintings dating back to the Neolithic era have been discovered.
